License issues

We have a ChartFX for .Net (6.2) license, but use only the redistributable

components within a web application, within a webservice, and within a

WinForm application. Each app is built on a common code base, including a

class library that creates ChartFX.Chart objects. The web app will save

these objects as .jpgs that it will then stream onto a page. A report

webservice creates Chart objects that are then saved in PDFs. And the

WinForm app creates line Charts locally for display on the Winform

(shocking, I know).

Here's my issue/question: we had ill-advisedly and unnecessarily installed

our license on multiple machines, and are in the progress of uninstalling

those machines. The problem is that on the webservers USED TO have ChartFX

installed, everything works great. But on the webservers that never had it

installed, we get this error:

System.ComponentModel.LicenseException: Couldn't get Run Time license for

'SoftwareFX.ChartFX.Chart'

Since SoftwareFX.ChartFX.Chart is a redistributable component, I don't

understand why it's even using the LicenseManager.

Thoughts? Clues? Answers?

Thanks.

SoftwareFX.ChartFX.Chart is a re-distributable control as part of an

application, it is not redistributable for all purposes (e.g. for

development).

The way Windows Form licensing works is that the license for all controls is

included inside the .EXE at compile time and then this .EXE and only this

.EXE can use the control at run-time without the need for a license being

installed in the computer in which it is running.

This applies only to building EXEs, if you build a dll, the EXE that uses it

still needs to have a license of the control embedded inside.

The following KB articles should shed some light on this issue:

object using Chart FX for .NET

What part didn't you understand ? Did you take a look at the referenced articles?

You have a Web Server in which Chart FX has never been installed, then that server can not run Chart FX Web Forms. You need to install Chart FX in that server and you need a license for each server.
