User (Legacy)
We have been trying to work out how to get our licensing working for webforms on a web server. The problem we are grapling with is that it seems we have to run an installation (.EXE) on a web server. We assumed we could just simply copy the files to the BIN folder and place a serial number in a web.config file or place it in code but it appears it requires for licensing that the .EXE be run. The issue here is that the server we are going to be using is at a web hosting company. Our application will be on a server where there are other sites too. Our web hosts have said that for security reasons they will not do this so we are in a quandry. The normal practice for Dot Net installs etc is that they are just placed into the BIN folder -- I though this was the whole point of dot net. We have purchased a valid license and it will only be used on the one server, by us and not by any other company that the ISP have but we cant see any way for this to work. Can anyone help? We're happy to register manually if its possible or put some code in somewhere or sign something in blood but we cant run the exe. Software FX
We have debated internally the advantages and disadvantages of providing xcopy deployment for our licensing scheme. In order to reduce the level of piracy for our control, we decided to use a registry-based scheme for our licensing storage, instead of a file-based scheme. This has not been an issue for most of our users, since practically all of them have direct access to their servers. The license agreement of Chart FX for .NET clearly establishes the following in the clause 1, paragraph c: "(e.g. an Internet Service Provider (ISP) may not use the "Production Server Components" when hosting pages for its customers using different domain names)". Unfortunately there's nothing we can do at this time about this issue. ---- IG Software FX "James Beauchamp" <james.beauchamp@stopspam.com.au> wrote in message news:1xAjnn6MDHA.3180@webserver1.softwarefx.com... > We have been trying to work out how to get our licensing working for > webforms on a web server. > > The problem we are grapling with is that it seems we have to run an > installation (.EXE) on a web server. > > We assumed we could just simply copy the files to the BIN folder and place a > serial number in a web.config file or place it in code but it appears it > requires for licensing that the .EXE be run. > > The issue here is that the server we are going to be using is at a web > hosting company.
