VS2003 vs VS2005 BLUES...

User (Legacy)

Hi

I had a fully functional VS2003 version with CFX 7 with financial extension

installed. All worked fine and was easy to setup with the wizard. That was

then...

New Machine, Clean XPSP2 Install.

I have installed VS2005 with the new CFX8 and Financial extension. But

nothing works. I can get as far as adding a chart to a webform, but cannot

add the financial extension. It says I have to restart VS2005. I do that,

and then try to add it again, but it doesn't add, and when I go back to the

extension addin, it shows that none is selected. What am I doing wrong

here...

Where is my damn wizard...lol

I really need some pointers here...

Thanx

Dear Gerhard,

Just to clarify a bit ... ChartFX for .NET 6.2 works with VS2003 and

VS2005.

ChartFX for Visual Studio 2005 works only with VS2005.

Lots of versions, lots of numbers I know it is confusing.

Normally, when you add the Financial Extension a new entry is added on the

bottom of the design surface.

It should be named Financial1

That object has a property Chart. And after you close and open VS 2005 the

Chart property should be set to your Chart1.

Can you get this far?

Can you Add other extensions like Annotation? Statistical? Maps?

Have you tried applying the latest service pack?

Correction,

In webforms it is not at the bottom rather it is a separate control on the

Design Surface that doesn´t draw.

It is similar to a data control.

It should say

Financial-Financial1

Hi

We have moved over from CFX 6.2 to 7 (VS2005) and moved over to VS2005 as

well.

I reformatted the drive, started clean with only CS2005 and the new CFX7

with Extenions Loaded.

So I´m building my webchart from scratch as the upgrading did not go well at

all and I have had numerous licencing issues with the new chart control on

VS2005.

I don´t see the control added at all.

I am using the latest service pack.

Every time I want to add the Financial extension it gives me the error that

VS2005 has to be restarted.

I´ve attached an image for yout to see.

That message is normal, it happens when the extension is first added to the

project, however, after you follow the instructions there: close Visual

Studio (saving your project) and re-starting, you should get the extension

in your form and the chart connected to it.

Notice that the extension is an "non visual" control, so if you have your

settings so that non visual controls are not shown, you won't see it in your

designer (this option is in the Visual Studio View menu when you are in the

designer). But even if you don't see the extension in the design surface, it

should still be there and the chart attached to it. You will see this when

you show the Task List again, there will be an option for configuring the

Financial Extension.

If you are not getting this behavior, it is likely that you have some kind

of version mix-up.

1) Where did you install Chart FX Financial from ?

2) Is the Financial Extension dll added to your references. If it is, check

the version of it, it should be the same as ChartFX.Webforms.dll except for

the last group of numbers.

3) If the extension is not added to the references, look for the file in the

Chart FX Installation folder, under bin and check the version there.

Hi There

The only extension that can be added is the annotations.

Once added, it shows the annotation´s "non-visual control" button.

I installed both ChartFX and Extensions from the CD´s we got from you.

One thing I have to mention is that after I installed the CFX2005 I

Installed The Extensions, But It did not want to install, as it said the

other controls have to be upgraded first and that I should download the

service pack, which I did.

So I installed the service pack, which upgraded all controls to version

7.0.2330 except the extensions, which it could not find because they were

not installed yet.

I then installed the extensions. And now if I look at my service pack

installer, it shows that the extensions are greyed out.

And In the resource center it says the extensions are not installed.

But yet I can add only the annotation extension in VS2005.

So What now?

I have added three images:

1. AddedExtensions.jpg: Shows the extensions referenced.

2. ChartAnnotationOnly.jpg: Shows how the Annotation Control is displayed

but not the financial. Although both were selected one by one.

3. SFXProdInfo.jpg: Shows the versions as seen from the upgrade prodinfo

screen. Note how all extensions are greyed out. Is this normal?I am no

uninstalling both and will try to reinstall again to see if the problem goes

away...RegardsGerhard"SoftwareFX Support" <noreply@softwarefx.com> wrote in

Hi

I have removed both versions.

I Re-Install ChartFX for VS2005.

1. Everything looks great. In The Resource Center It shows My Serial Number

and that no Extensions Are Installed. Perfect.

2. The Standard Charting Also Works Great in VS2005.

I try to Re-Install Extensions.

It firstly comes up with an error that version 7.0.2330 needs to be

installed before I can install this version.

I install the update which I donwloaded from your website. All Versions are

now 7.0.2330 except for the Flash Generation and PSS Service that It Can´t

seem to download.

After The Update All Extensions are now shown greyed out on the Update

Program.

I now install the Extensions Pack. Installation Goes Fine.

Now When I Open the resource center, the Serial Number Shows N/A

And It still shows no extensions are installed.

I Go Into VS2005. Can Add A Chart. Can Add Annotation, But Cannot Add Any

Other Extension. It just does not display any other extensions.

I am actually "de moer in" (Frustrated) that the two versions that was

received from you were not compatible and that I had to download a patch

before I could install the extensions.

So what do you suggest now?

Kind Regards

Gerhard

The problem is definitely an installation issue. Unless you have the same

version for the core and the extensions nothing is going to work.

Now that you have v 7.0.2330 of the core, what is the version of your

extension dll ? In your screenshot of SfxProductInfo, it shows that you have

7.0.2365 with is NEWER than 2330. Is this the version you install from the

CD ? What CD is that ?

Please contact Software FX Support, I don not know how you got 7.0.2365, and

that is what's causing the problem. The extensions must be 7.02330 also.

It is the ChartFX Extensions CD.

Yip, that is the CD we bought from SoftwareFX.

We had it shipped from there to South Africa.

This is really baffling. I just checked random CD´s in our warehouse and

they were all version 2330.

Please contact Software FX Support, they can point you to a URL where you

can download the right installer.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have contacted them and were given new download links.

I have removed all traces of ChartFX tools as per instructions, and have

reinstalled the two versions.

It is working now and I can see all extensions and add them etc.

Even the resource centre is showing them as installed etc.

So Important Mental Note To Self: Check Versions!!!

Thanx For All The Help
