Setting chart.DataSource is causing my Windows Form to stop responding

I am creating my ListProvider and passing it to the chart in an invoked 

method (because the data is coming in from a callback so I can't access the 

chart except by .Invoke) but when I set the chart's DataSource it causes the 

Windows form to stop responding.  If I comment out the setting of the 

DataSource it keeps working normally (of course the chart doesn't update).

Any idea what the problem could be?
