Several Questions

User (Legacy)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have some Quesations about ChartFX and it's Features:

1.) On a Bar-Chart I have the Labels on Y-Axis and the Values on X.

Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between one Lable to the next?

Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between the Right side of the

Lable-Text (May Right aligned) and the Axis-Line?

Q: Is it possible to set the Bar-Height (How fat it is)?

Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between X-Axis-Values and the

Axis-Line?

2.) On an Line-Chart (2D):

Q: Is it possible to set an alternating Background-Color for Y-Grid-Lines?

(So the background-Color alternates between two colors)

Q: Is it possible to set the Color and width of the Grid-Lines?

Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between the Legend-Items?

Q: Is it possible to set the Legend Line-Properties like Linewidth / height?

3.) I have also an "Chart" whitch is only an Table:

Q: Can I render with (?) Pre- / Post Render-Events on an empty Chart?

Q: Is there may an "Chart" whitch looks like an Table (Headline, Rows,

Alternating Colors, Textorientation, ...)

4.) Dognut-Chart:

Q: Is it possible to set the inner- and outer- Width of the Dognut-Ring?

Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between Lable and Dognut?

5.) General Questions:

Q: Is it possible to use Millimeter as the Unit?

Q: Is it possible to create my own Color-Palette?

Q: In the WinForm Developer-License: Is SVG as an Export-Format available?

I know its an lots of Questions ....

But my trial License has expired (Due to hollydays between installing the

Trial and finally evaluationg the Control).

And may somebody (ChartFX-Stuff?) got allready similar Questions and they

can point out some answers...

Mansur

> Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between one Lable to the next?

The distance in pixels ? You can set the Step, which is the number of units

(whatever unit the X-Axis is in) between labels. Date axes can handle

irregular steps such as moths and years.

> Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between the Right side of the

> Lable-Text (May Right aligned) and the Axis-Line?

You can control the right margin and you can control the range of the X-Axis

as well as the last label displayed. I think I would understand it better if

you post a screenshot of what you mean.

> Q: Is it possible to set the Bar-Height (How fat it is)?

Yes, by controlling the scrolling you can fit more or less bars into a given

space hence making the bars thinner or thicker.

> Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between X-Axis-Values and the

> Axis-Line?

Again, a drawing or screenshot of what you want will help us determine the

answer to this.

> 2.) On an Line-Chart (2D):

> Q: Is it possible to set an alternating Background-Color for Y-Grid-Lines?

> (So the background-Color alternates between two colors)

Yes, we call this interlaced gridlines.

> Q: Is it possible to set the Color and width of the Grid-Lines?

Yes.

> Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between the Legend-Items?

You can control the size and position of the legend box hence affecting the

position of its elements.

> Q: Is it possible to set the Legend Line-Properties like Linewidth /

> height?

No. The legend box displays the line as it shows in the chart. However you

can crate custom legend items that you can configure independently.

> 3.) I have also an "Chart" whitch is only an Table:

Yes.

> Q: Is there may an "Chart" whitch looks like an Table (Headline, Rows,

> Alternating Colors, Textorientation, ...)

No. You can display the chart's data along with the chart using the

DataGrid/DataEditor bar.

> 4.) Dognut-Chart:

> Q: Is it possible to set the inner- and outer- Width of the Dognut-Ring?

No.

> Q: Is it possible to set the Distance between Lable and Dognut?

No. Labels can be displayed inside, around or at the margins of the

pie/doughnut.

> 5.) General Questions:

> Q: Is it possible to use Millimeter as the Unit?

What unit ?

> Q: Is it possible to create my own Color-Palette?

Yes.

> Q: In the WinForm Developer-License: Is SVG as an Export-Format available?

No. This is part of the WebForms control only.

I mean the Distance between the Label-Text and the Axis-Line. So how far the

Text is away from the Axis-Line.

About Dates: There is no Format witch shows the Date in QUaters. Like: Q1

(1/1/2006-3/31/2006), Q2, Q3, Q4?

O.K. I put an screen to this post.

You see an bar-Chart. On the Left side there are the Labels (Blured). The

Labels have to be 3.35 Millimeters away from the Bars.

The same is with the Line-Chart. The Values have to be 3 mm away from the

Axis.

So the thicknes of an bar depends on "how many Bars and how high is the

Chart-Area?"

So I can set an image for an Legend-Item / Datarow. Say:

First Datarow gets the Color Purple and the Legend-Image something.gif ?

So on what the ring-Dimensions depend on?

Only the Chartare-Size sets the Dognut inner- and outer Dimensions?

Margins ... Means I set an Margin of say 5px and the Labels will be then 5px

from the Dognut away?

Can you use units like cm and mm for defining, positioning and sizing this

shapes or just pixels?

Some more Questions:

- Is it possible to create an own chart type by placing different shapes in

an empty chart?

- Can you put everything in the chart like (un)filled boxes, polygons,

lines with different thickness, Text etc?

- Can you use gradient fillings or even more sophisticated fillings for

this shapes or just a single color?

- Will all this (own shapes defined in mm etc.) export to an vector format

like WMF?

No. This distance is determined by the font size and grid settings.

> About Dates: There is no Format witch shows the Date in QUaters. Like: Q1

> (1/1/2006-3/31/2006), Q2, Q3, Q4?

Yes you can set the format to appear as quarters, in fact this is automatic

when the Step is one quarter (90 days). Set:

axis.Step = 90;

To obtain a label for every quarter (given that the Axis Format is date).

> O.K. I put an screen to this post.

Ok. You are talking about the Point Labels here. Use PointLabelOffset to

control this distance. In pixels.

> Chart-Area?"

Correct !

> So I can set an image for an Legend-Item / Datarow. Say:

> First Datarow gets the Color Purple and the Legend-Image something.gif ?

If you want to set Legend Items that are independent of the series you can

use the Custom Legend Box. You can set an image as the marker for an item as

well as one of the pre-define Marker Shapes.

> So on what the ring-Dimensions depend on?

> Only the Chartare-Size sets the Dognut inner- and outer Dimensions?

Correct !

> Margins ... Means I set an Margin of say 5px and the Labels will be then

> 5px from the Dognut away?

No. This means the Point Labels will be to both sides of the charts aligned

in two columns one column to the left of the chart and one column to the

right.

> Can you use units like cm and mm for defining, positioning and sizing this

> shapes or just pixels?

Just pixels.

> - Is it possible to create an own chart type by placing different shapes

> in an empty chart?

If you are not going to do a chart, what do you need to do it inside of out

control. There are PrePaint and PostPaint events that allow you to draw on

the chart surface, however if you don't want a chart, I don't see why you

would want to do it inside the Chart control.

> - Can you put everything in the chart like (un)filled boxes, polygons,

> lines with different thickness, Text etc?

You can use the Annotation extension to draw basic shapes.

> - Can you use gradient fillings or even more sophisticated fillings for

> this shapes or just a single color?

Annotation objects support only solid colors.

> - Will all this (own shapes defined in mm etc.) export to an vector

> format like WMF?

Yes.

Hi,

Just one more thing ....

You told the Dognut can not be set in the Ring-Thikness!?

Your Ring has an Ring-Thiknes of about 25% of the Ring - Size ...

Can I may set this Persantage of the Ring - Thiknes?

It can't be the Solution that all ChartFX - Rings are allways that fat!?

Somehow it must be an way to change this!?

Mansur
