Displaying dates in X-Axis

I need to display dates in the X-Axis. 

I'm  using VC. 

I'm pretty sure I need to call ICfxAxis::PutFormat() and somehow pass 

in AF_DATETIME, but PutFormat takes a _variant_t param.  What the 

trick in translating the enumerated value of AF_DATETIME in what 

PutFomat() is expecting?
