licensing problem again

User (Legacy)

Recommended Posts

I have a licensing problem that was raised here by another guy some time

ago

but you didn't respond to it up to the end.

The problem had been raised on this newsgroup by "xrx" on February 22.

I am using Win2K professional on every machine.

The idea is that by using a simple project with just a ChartFX.Lite

component on

it, it works perfectly when deploying to a clean computer.

(I copy the executable and the chartfx.lite.dll)

But, when the project gets a little bit complicated, I get a horrible

"Couldn't get Run Time license for 'SoftwareFX.ChartFX.Lite.Chart'

exception"

In both cases, I use the same model, with licenses.licx embedded in the

executable,

as fully discussed in this newsgroup already.

My project reads from some webservices to get data then store it into a

dataset

that is passed to the chart. It works wonderfully on my computer but no

way to work on another machine.

I cannot tell what is wrong, and I strongly suspect a bug.

My build version of dll is the most recent to date, 6.0.839.0, the one

uploaded

on may 16th on your site.

Could you tell me a way to manually provide the licence ?

If you could get rid of that licence it would be ideal.

Thanks,

Silviu

We have been unable to reproduce this problem, we have may people using the

product and redistributing their apps with no problem at all. Of course that

doesn't necessarily means that there isn't a bug but to fix it we need to be

able to reproduce it.

The phrase "when the project gets a little bit complicated" is very vague

and doesn't give us the information we need. As a developer yourself surely

understand what I mean, right ?

Is it possible that you send us a VS project that reproduces this problem ?

Thank you in advance.

I have exactly the same circumstances as you, I made a single form program

with 1 button that displays a chart and it works on the development machine

and all tested distributions of it to other machines. However when I use the

chart component in are larger project I get the same error as you

"Couldn't get Run Time license for 'SoftwareFX.ChartFX.Lite.Chart'

exception" but only on non development machines.

If I can't get it to work I think I will move to Excel unless anyone can

help me with my problem ?

What exactly are the characteristics of your larger project ?

Are you creating a wrapper for ChartFX ? If you are please note that VS.NET

will not embed the license in your wrapper so you will have to drop the

ChartFX Lite control in an empty form in your main EXE (this form will never

be displayed) so that VS.NET can embed the license in your exe.

Mike

I too have had the same trouble as you. I've tried all the tricks posted

here - including embedding as a resouce. I've just about had enough with

this control - it's more trouble than its worth. Certainly not worth buying

the full version if the licensing issues are the same. I've spent about a

day messing around re-installing, trying deploying all with the same

"runtime" license error. Gonna stick to Excel or microsoft chart control -

at least they work

:-(

I'm afraid that without an explanation of the problem we can not provide a

solution. Hundreds of people is successfully using Chart FX Lite and

deploying applications with it, so the fact that it is not working for you

doesn't mean it doesn't work. Most people that experienced some kind of

problem with the license was able to fix them either by changing something

on their side or by installing a SP provided by us.

If you are still interested, I'll be glad to help you with your specific

situation, but I will need the details for that.
