Visual Studio Crashes after installing 7.0.2335.30476

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 8.0.50727.42 on Windows XP.

Specifically, I encounter problems when attempting to click on any link in

the Chart Tasks popup. Doing so causes VS 2005 to crash immediately. The

problem occurs on existing reports, as well as new reports, using both the

default chart type (like when first adding a chart to a report) and the

Radar/Polar chart type. I have not tried any others.

No, there is no error message, just an option to send the error report to

Microsoft which then brings me to this site:

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=0f739df3-1e6a-423f-b5b8-f45626db39b0&SID=2049

I'm no longer sure that this problem is related the latest service pack for

chartfx for RS2005, as I've tried uninstalling ChartFX, and re-installing

(without applying the service pack) and the same error happens. I will

continue to investigate and post my findings here.

Thank you,

Neil

Does ChartFX write to a log file or anything similar that I can use to debug

what's going on? I don' t know what is going on, but now, when I try to

change the series properties of my chart (Under the Attributes->Series in

the Properties window), and hit OK, none of the changes I have made get

applied.

Does ChartFX use VB at all? I'd really love to get this working.

No log file is written that will help us determine what's happening here.

This is very strange. You should see the changes as you make them, before

hitting OK. If you hit Cancel the changes should revert.

The first problem you described seemed to be related to the Wizard, you need

to verify the versions of your Chart FX dll's everywhere, the kind of

problem you are having is not common and you don't seem to be doing anything

special so to me this has to be some setup issue.

Here is a screen cap of my dll's and their version numbers after the update.

They all seem to be up to date to me.

I am experiencing the same problem with VS 2005 Version 8.0.50727.42

Specifically

1) If I try to add any of the guages to a report, Visual Studio crashes and

restarts.

I also get the following errors

2) I can not change the gallery type in the smart tag wizard. (I can edit

in place and change the gallery type)

3) Combination graphs show a line and a bar for each series. (If I should

have 2 data points, I get 4)

Attached is a screen shot of DLL's

As you can see the version of ChartFX.ReportingServices.dll and other Dlls

in Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\Private Assemblies, is OLDER than the one in

your installation folder (2286 instead of 2335), this will cause problems.

Please do the following:

- Close ALL programs

- Stop SQL Server and SQL Server Reporting Services (all services) using the

SQL Server Configuration Manager

- Uninstall Chart FX for RS.

- Delete ChartFX.* from "Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\Private Assemblies"

- Delete "Program Files\ChartFX For Reporting Services"

- Re-install Chart FX for RS

- Try to create a new report with a Chart in it, if this works, try to open

one of your existing reports.

Also I do not see here you SQL Server folder, is it in another drive? Chart

FX files are also installed inside SQLServer. Please remove them from the as

well before re-installing.
